BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Jim Donelon, Louisiana insurance commissioner was the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 1. He discussed hurricane season and the recent homeowners insurance policy cancellations, among other things.
Monday, the Louisiana Department of Insurance also released new details on Hurricane Ida-related claims.
The department said insurance companies have paid or reserved to pay $13.1 billion on all types of claims related to Ida through June 30. As of that date, policyholders have filed more than 400,000 claims. Of those claims, the Louisiana Department of Insurance said 65% were closed with payment.
Commissioner Donelon encouraged any policyholder having problems getting their insurer to pay a claim to call the number 800-259-5300 and file a complaint.
