In the fully-backed Kickstarter Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of the City – The Board Game, players control their own gang and territory in Night City.
A new Cyberpunk 2077 game brings Night City Gangs to the tabletop in Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City – The Board Game. Tabletop versions of popular video games are becoming more and more common these days. A notable example is Resident Evil: The Board Game, which launched on Kickstarter in October of last year, just in time for Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary. Within hours, the campaign gained enough backers to be fully funded. Now Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City – The Board Game has followed suit, with tabletop publisher CMON teaming up with CD Projekt Red to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the new tabletop RPG.

Night City and the various gangs that run it are a major feature of the CyberPunk 2077 world. In the 2020 video game, the player must navigate through the decrepit Night City, which is crawling with feuding gangs. Throughout the game, the player interacts with Cyberpunk 2077’s various gangs as V travels through a gang’s territory or loots their main hideout for money and street cred. Each group looks and operates differently from its rivals, adding depth to Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City setting and overall plot. A new tabletop game focuses on these gangs vying for power in Night City.

Currently a campaign on Kickstarter, Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of the City – The Board Game will let players control their own gang and territory in Night City. One to four players play as the leader of either the Tyger Claws, Valentinos, Maelstrom, or Voodoo Boys. After choosing a story route, players activate their gang units to either clash in the streets or on the Net. The gang that earns the most street credit wins.
Before the initial video game was released, fans were deciding which Cyberpunk 2077 gangs they wanted to work with. As such, some fans were disappointed when the game was released, and they discovered that interactions with Night City’s gangs were limited. Though the gangs were prevalent throughout the city, their role in the overall video game was confined to the background. Furthermore, players did not really see the often-referenced gang turf wars happen. With so many gangs referenced in the game and each one uniquely designed, it is unfortunate that they play a small role in the plot. Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City – The Board Game thankfully brings the gangs to the forefront, easing fans’ desire for more gang action.
As of this writing, the Kickstarter campaign for Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of the City has surpassed its funding goal of $100,000 with over 3,000 backers pledging a total of $254,484. The developer hopes to fulfill orders around a year after the Kickstarter campaign ends. Once copies have been received, fans can finally play the part of a gang that truly rules Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
